York 13:40 – Mondammej
Mondammej was picked up by the team for next to no money at the horses-in-training sale and has proven to be a very shrewd purchase. He looked very well handicapped on his first day on turf at Pontefract and confirmed that at Chester last week when things didn’t go to plan and the track was never going to suit his hold-up style. He can be seen to much better affect on this freewheeling 5f open, galloping track.
York 14:10 – Queen Power
Queen Power has probably not managed to win the amount of races you would expect for a performer of her ability. However, things have just gone against her or she was a little keen early on in plenty of her races. To finish as close up as she did last time at this level to Lady Bowthorpe at Newmarket was an excellent performance and she can step forward from that return to action. Again, the track will suit perfectly.
Salisbury 14:25 – Wahraan
Wahraan was a big eye-catcher last time at Windsor behind likely favourite Lord Protector who reopposes here on 2lb worse terms. He never looked like getting involved, but started to really power home in the closing stages and possibly had he been set about his business half of furlong earlier he would’ve managed to get his head in front. The yard’s runners are in tremendous form and he may well have most to fear from the bottom weight Saligo Bay.

York 14:40 – King Ottokar
Everything has finally come in King Ottokar‘s favour and we will give this handicapper one last roll of the dice to come up with the goods. Was working tremendously before his return in the Lincoln at Doncaster but the ground had gone against him and he didn’t let himself down under quickish conditions. If the rain falls he gets his ideal conditions of a mile with a strong pace to run at so he can have no excuses.
York 15:10 – Gear Up
Gear Up seems to be completely overlooked as far as the Epsom Derby betting is concerned and he may well prove more of a St Leger contender in time . However, there is no getting away from his fantastic juvenile form including at Group One level in France. We will find out if all the hype regarding high definition is warranted as this looks just about the strongest trial for the Derby to date.
York 15:40 – First Company (Each Way)
First Company kept very high company last season as a juvenile. On his return to action in his first handicap at Chester he ran an absolute blinder. Admittedly, he’s not best treated on official ratings for this Listed assignment, however, given natural improvement he looks sure to be on the premises at double-digit odds. Winter Power will be all the rage but she did take a few runs to find her stride last season and for that reason I will go for the value option each-way.
