Nap

15:21 – Mumtaaz

Mumtaaz showed improved form to make a successful handicap debut over this course and distance last month, readily defying a BHA mark of 69. Settled in mid-division in a steadily-run affair, he was outpaced briefly when the leaders quickened over a furlong out. However, the most impressive aspect of his performance was how strongly he finished, asserting close home to land the spoils by a length with plenty in hand. That was his first start for Charlie Hills after leaving John Gosden during the winter, so it will be no surprise if he has even more to offer. A 3 lb rise in the weights is unlikely to be enough to prevent him from following up.

Next best

14:46 – Corbulo

Corbulo has made good progress since switching to handicaps this season, making a winning return at this course last month and then improving again when second at Nottingham 11 days later. He was arguably unlucky not to follow up at Nottingham, doing well to be beaten just a nose after being left with too much to do. That was his first try at a mile and a quarter, but the race didn’t provide a true test of stamina given the modest gallop in the early stages. Corbulo certainly left the impression he has a bigger effort in the locker granted a strong pace to aim at, so he is fancied to defy a 3 lb higher mark to resume winning ways back at the scene of his breakthrough success.

Each-way

15:56 – Solar Park

Solar Park has done most of his racing on the all-weather, but the limited evidence we have gives no reason why he shouldn’t be equally effective on turf. He lines up here from a BHA mark of 54, which is 3 lb lower than when beaten just a neck at Chelmsford in November, the closest he has come to winning a race since recording his last victory in March 2020. Solar Park continued in good form in the first part of this year and has been given a break since disappointing at Wolverhampton seven weeks ago. He has gone well fresh in the past and this is a weak race, so it hopefully won’t take much for him to hit the frame at rewarding each-way odds.
