13:40 – VIEUX CARRE

Those with experience don’t set a high standard by any means and it may pay to side with one of the newcomers, and it is VIEUX CARRE who tops the list. Out of a two-year-old winner five furlong winner, she has precocity in her pedigree, and represents a yard in good order, so a big showing is anticipated in what looks a weak race. Black Hill Storm has plenty of experience to call upon and is feared most.

New to Paddy Power?

14:10 – AWESOMEBYNATURE

Again, the ones with experience don’t set an exacting standard, so it could pay to take a chance on another newcomer in the shape of AWESOMEBYNATURE. She makes plenty of appeal on paper being a half-sister to the same connections’ Awesometank, and is bred to have plenty of speed and ability, so she is taken to make a winning debut at the likely expense of Aunt Agatha, who is the clear pick of those with experience.

14:40 – CLEVELEYS

Both of CLEVELEYS runs last season came over six furlongs at this course and he shaped well on debut to finish fourth in a race that has worked out well. He looked in need of the experience on that occasion, but could only match that form on his next start seven weeks later. The winner was in a different league that day and Cleveleys still looked green, outpaced at halfway but staying on steadily in the closing stages to finish third in a race where they finished strung out. Both of his runs last year came in heavy ground, and he could be the type to improve for a sounder surface, while the step up to seven furlongs is sure to bring about improvement. Lilikoi shaped well on debut recently and looks the danger.

15:15 – COSMOS RAJ

COSMOS RAJ improved for the step up to this trip when getting off the mark in good style at Wetherby four days ago and, provided this doesn’t come too soon, he looks well treated turned out under a penalty and is capable of going in again. Handicap debutante Celestial Queen also makes plenty of appeal and Kingdom Found warrants consideration two months on from a narrow success at Lingfield.

15:50 – CRANE

CRANE improved with each start last year and opened his account at the third attempt on his nursery debut at Lingfield in December. He probably deserved extra credit for that success too as he was forced wide on the home turn which left him further back than ideal, but he made good headway in the straight and showed a nice turn of foot to take up the lead inside the final 100 yards. The bare form doesn’t look anything special, but Crane had a fair bit in hand that day and his pedigree suggests he will go on improving for a while yet. Michael Bell doesn’t send many to Redcar and Crane can make it worthwhile.

16:25 – MYTHICAL MADNESS

MYTHICAL MADNESS confirmed himself back in form, and likely would have finished closer but for some late interference when fifth in a seven-runner Beverley handicap on Sunday. The drop in grade is an obvious plus and he’s fancied to capitalise on these terms in what doesn’t look a deep race. Sadie’s Day is worth a crack at this longer trip and is respected along with the veteran Yuften.

17:00 – TRICOLORE

TRICOLORE had some solid form last year, but he took it to another level on his return from six months off when running out a convincing winner of a handicap at Wolverhampton last month. He came in for strong support that day, so he had obviously improved over the winter, and he was given an ultra-confident ride, still having a bit to do entering the straight but showing a sharp turn of foot when getting a gap around a furlong out. He won in ready fashion that day and a subsequent 9lb rise in the weights could well underestimate him. The switch back to turf isn’t a concern and he is strongly fancied to follow up.
