13:00 Newbury – Derab

A busy Sunday on ITV gets under way with this maiden over 1m. Plenty of guessing here! That said it’s not hard to pick DERAB as the most likely winner for the Gosdens and Martin Harley.

The latter was on top when my selection chased home La Barrosa at Ascot first time and the Godolphin runner is a pretty useful beast having finished second in the Craven on Thursday. Fantastic Fox the danger.

New to Paddy Power?

13:15 Ayr – Theinval

It Jumps racing on ITV comes at Ayr now and it starts here with a Listed handicap chase over an extended 2m. THEINVAL has won this off a mark of 136 for Nicky Henderson in the past (2018) and he might be worth chancing on decent ground now rated 136. Nico de Boinville takes the ride and while his form has been poor this term, this is his chance to bounce back if he is ever going to at the age of 11.

13:35 Newbury – Euchen Glen

This is the Group 3 John Porter for older horses over 1m 4f. Al Aasy is the one to beat, but EUCHEN GLEN is too big a price not to have a few quid on each-way.

The Jim Goldie stable star was super impressive at this track last season and has had a racecourse gallop in Scotland. At the age of eight he’s not going to get much better, but he might stay a bit stronger than some of these!

13:50 Ayr – One More Fleurie

Now a handicap chase over 3m. ONE MORE FLEURIE is in great form and stays strong, so should go well for Ian Williams and Charlie Todd – who takes off 3lbs. This is much more competitive than the race he landed last time at Warwick, but he stays on the same mark of 122 and could still have a bit more to come.

Newbury-Races-Horse-Racing

14:10 Newbury – Lucid Dreamer

It’s the Group 3 fillies’ Classic trial next in the Fred Darling over 7 furlongs. Very hard with possible non stayers all over the place. I’ve no strong opinion, so I will risk the unbeaten LUCID DREAMER each-way for Roger Charlton and Jason Watson.

Stamina will be no issue for the daughter of Dansili, more just whether she is good enough. Her wins at Kempton and Newbury in a pathetic field last season suggested she would improve with age.

14:25 Ayr – Milkwood

A Grade 2 here in the shape of the Scottish Champion Hurdle over 2m. There is nothing like a Champion Hurdle! MILKWOOD did really well to finish third behind Belfast Banter in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham and this type of test on decent ground is just what he likes to show his best. He should take some beating for Neil Mulholland and San Twiston-Davies.

14:45 Newbury – Chindit

The colts and geldings get a go here in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes over 7 furlongs and stamina is the worry for Alkumait. I loved CHINDIT when he landed the Group 2 Champagne at Doncaster, but then he ran no race at all in the Dewhurst at Newmarket. If the real Chindit stands up, he will take all the beating for Richard Hannon and Pat Dobbs.

Ayr Races

15:00 Ayr – Allmankind

Grade 2 company once again for the Champion Novices’ Chase over an extended 2m 4f. ALLMANKIND is going to skip round here and while I don’t believe he’s as good as his rating suggests, he will take some catching for the in-form combination of Dan and Harry Skelton. He was well stuffed when last seen behind Shishkin in the Arkle at Cheltenham.

15:20 Newbury – Danyah

The big betting handicap at the track in the Spring Cup over 1m. The one to beat here has to be the Lincoln fourth DANYAH for Owen Burrows and Jim Crowley. My hope just ran a bit free at Doncaster and didn’t get home, but he still ran a cracker and there should be more to come after just eight races. He stays on the same handicap mark. Troll Peninsula a fascinating rival.

15:35 Ayr – Notachance

Lastly at Ayr, it’s for many the major event of the day in the Scottish Grand National over 4m. The one who might have a bit more to offer is NOTACHANCE trained by Alan King and ridden by Tom Cannon.

The seven-year-old got stuck in the mud at Haydock last time, but had stayed strong prior to that at Warwick and is still young enough to improve further whereas many of these could well be at the hilt of their handicap mark. A racing weight of 11st 3lb looks good and he has the speed to cope in the early stages, where they are sure to go a good clip. I’ll back him each-way.

15:55 Newbury – Alfaadhel

Finally at Newbury, the second division of the maiden over 1m. I’ll take a chance here against obvious contenders on form with ALFAADHEL for Roger Varian and Jim Crowley.

The 360,000gns Night of Thunder colt must have shown a bit for Crowley to ditch the Charlie Hills Shadwell runner and my hope should be an each-way price.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
