16:50 Kilmington Rose

Wilderness may be capable of offering some resistance but this really should go the way of KILMINGTON ROSE, who showed plenty of promise before facing a tough task last time.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

17:20 Seaside Girl

Perhaps the safest option is SEASIDE GIRL, who ran well at Huntingdon behind a subsequent winner. Auld Sod has a poor conversion-rate but he will appreciate returning to 3m and he’s second choice ahead of Lure Des Pres. The Boat is a possible improver.

17:50 Jarveys Plate (NAP)

Fergal O’Brien exploited Liam Harrison’s 7lb claim to good effect at Cheltenham this week and JARVEYS PLATE (nap) can also reap the benefits. If repeating his recent winning form from Newbury, he should be hard to beat. Jersey Wonder has more to offer as a stayer and can be the danger, though with him back on drier ground Cotswold Way is also feared.

18:20 Pointed And Sharp

It’s difficult to build a solid case for any of these but POINTED AND SHARP seemed to have rediscovered some form before his unlucky exit at the final fence at Huntingdon in November and, with today’s conditions in his favour, he might capitalise upon some help from the handicapper. Generation Gap is well treated on hurdle form and he was going okay until a bad jumping error knocked the stuffing out of him at Uttoxeter last time.

18:50 Espressino

We haven’t seen ESPRESSINO since his soft-ground C&D win in December but he was one of two to pull nicely clear of the others that day and he’ll be fine on today’s much faster going. He gets the vote ahead of handicap debutante Merry Berry, who took a step forward on her latest hurdle start and, if her bumper form is a guide, can do better again now back on a sound surface. Felicissimus has no form claims but is with a good stable and has a lowly mark for his handicap debut.

19:20 Chase Me

So Socksy easily won a modest mares’ maiden point on her latest outing in December and has potential for further improvement but this is considerably weaker than the two hunter chases that five-time point winner CHASE ME has contested this year and, with today’s fast ground in his favour, he appeals most.

19:50 Huelgoat

This will probably go to Paul Nicholls’ new recruit HUELGOAT, who won a French AQPS Flat race in good style in October. It’s not easy to gauge what that form is worth but his three opponents with experience here haven’t achieved much. Tim Vaughan’s unraced 4yo Colonial Empire is bred to be a fairly useful Flat stayer, so he looks quite interesting.
