The final day of the Newmarket ‘Craven’ meeting and Jason Weaver has four best bets.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
Newmarket 13:50 – Jumby
Looked really good when winning on his racecourse debut and his two efforts afterwards were very good considering how keen he was in the early stages. It looks a good move that he comes back down sprinting on his return to action and this will give them a clearer picture of where they are heading this season. This race has been won by some decent sorts in the past including Prohibit and Aclaim and I have high hopes that JUMBY can be a flag-bearer for the Eve Johnson Houghton team this season.
Newmarket 14:25 – Southern Voyage
It’s a bit of a guessing game with all 11 runners making their racecourse debuts in this 1m maiden. All we can go on is their pedigrees and the trainers who can get them ready first time up and there aren’t many better than the Archie Watson team. SOUTHERN VOYAGE is bred for the job and won’t lack for fitness. Watch the market.

Newmarket 15:00 – Oxted
Last year‘s winner OXTED should take an awful lot of beating and we can safely put a line through his Saudi Arabia race as he quite clearly didn’t handle the dirt track. The team switched him from the Dubai Festival and brought him back with a home campaign in mind. They can be rewarded with another success before he springboards up into Group One company again like he did last year when eventually going ton to win the July Cup.
Newmarket 15:35 – Akmaam
AKMAAM looked really good when dominating on decent ground over 7 furlongs at Leicester on his debut last season. He then stepped up into Group 3 company on soft conditions which he didn’t seem to handle and wasn’t beaten miles by Godolphin’s main 2000 Guineas hope, One Ruler.
A return to quicker conditions should see him step up again on his seasonal debut. He has been completely overlooked in the market and rates a solid each-way play at a double digit odds.
