13.15 – Hurling Magic

HURLING MAGIC was runner-up to the smart Shan Blue back in an Irish point in November 2018, and was beaten only by a useful prospect who started long odds-on on his belated Rules debut at Warwick last month. He should have learnt plenty for that experience and this looks an excellent opportunity for Nicky Henderson’s seven-year-old to open his account, with Master Templar taken to follow him home.

13.45 – Apache Creek

APACHE CREEK didn’t show much in maiden/novice hurdles last season, and appeared to have been handed a stiff-looking handicap mark judged by his reappearance run at Newton Abbot in September. However, he was tighter in the market and showed much improved form to open his account on his next start, and was value for extra when following up at Wetherby when last seen in October. He has probably been saved for a spring/summer campaign given all of his best form is on a sound surface and he looks very interesting following a five-month break. Wicked Willy and Glorious Lady both require a return to form but make plenty of appeal from a handicapping perspective.

14.15 – Somekindofstar

Given his background in points, it isn’t a surprise that SOMEKINDOFSTAR is proving a much better chaser than hurdler, making it two wins from three starts over fences at Leicester earlier this month. His upturn in form has also coincided with the fitting of blinkers, and he was value for much more than the 10-length winning margin suggests last time having been eased on the run-in. His bold jumping was one of his standout attributes, and the fluency with which he travelled suggests a 10lb rise won’t be enough to stop him following up. Eragon de Chanay got back on track in a refitted visor at Fontwell and may pose the biggest threat.

14.45 – Takeit Easy

A competitive small-field handicap with the vote in favour of TAKEIT EASY. A winner at Huntingdon in October, he’s shaped well from his revised mark on both starts since, finishing third at Newbury earlier this month where he left the impression he would have been suited by a stronger gallop, and he looks sure to go well again from just 1lb higher. Hydroplane and Ginistrelli are others fancied to feature.

15.15 – El Presente

A small but select field for this feature contest and EL PRESENTE is fancied to continue his winning sequence since undergoing a wind operation. He has won four of his five starts since July, and proved better than ever when winning the Badger Beers Silver Trophy Handicap Chase at Wincanton when last seen in November. He has been raised 6lb for that which puts him on a career-high mark, but he is a horse who goes best on a sound surface, and it is hard to argue with his recent record, so he easily makes the most appeal. Checkitout and Capeland will provide some stern opposition however, and can chase Kim Bailey’s charge home in that order.

15.45 – Quinta Do Mar

QUINTA DO MAR was heavily backed and only overhauled late on at Market Rasen on Wednesday, and that is probably the best form on offer, so will be worth chancing once more if turned out quickly. Getaway Luv, whose progress stalled when only third at Taunton last time, looks the pick of the remainder, while Just No Risk arrives in decent form and also makes some appeal.

16.15 – Garde Ville

GARDE VILLE lacks the class of Capitane and Copain de Classe, but a runner-up effort in this sphere at this course three weeks ago confirms his well-being, and as a result he looks the safest recommendation.
