13:50 Uttoxeter – Ask Henry
No rest for the wicked! Saturday’s ITV coverage begins here with a handicap hurdle over nearly 3m. ASK HENRY was challenging when coming down in the closing stages at Taunton last time and, all being well, should have each-way claims for Graeme McPherson and Kielan Woods. The selection has only won once in a small field at Musselburgh, but he has ability and was suited by the step up to this trip when last seen.
14:05 Kempton – Onthefrontfoot
ITV are also at Kempton for this limited handicap chase over 2m. ONTHEFRONTFOOT has been on the Flat more than over jumps recently, but has every chance of making a splash in a poor event. The Donald McCain runner gets the help of Jonathan Burke and might be hard to catch.
14:25 Uttoxeter – Ask Me Early
Now a handicap chase over 3m and ASK ME EARLY looked a really promising chaser until running a shocker at Sandown last time. Prior to that the seven-year-old had scored twice at Chepstow and, as a lightly raced beast, looked to have much more to come for Harry Fry. I will give him another chance with Sean Bowen on top.
14:40 Kempton – Son Of Camas
Now a handicap hurdle over 2m 5f and SON OF CAMAS hasn’t done much to get excited about recently, but he has a third at Kempton on December 26 to his name. It was not a bad run and he’s now 1lb lower after two dismal efforts. Everything is right conditions wise for him to run well here, if he’s in the mood for Nicky Henderson and Nico de Boinville.
15:00 Uttoxeter – Gustavian
Next a handicap hurdle over 2m 4f. GUSTAVIAN is fast improving for Anthony Honeyball and over a perfect trip, has every chance to get the hat-trick up after victories at Fontwell and Uttoxeter. Ben Godfrey takes off a decent 5lbs and he has a nice racing weight of 11st 1lb.
15:15 Kempton – My Way
Lastly at Kempton, a handicap chase over an extended 2m 4f. MY WAY had run three times at Kempton in his 22 races and performed well on every occasion. He’s up 9lbs this time after a success at the track when last seen, but he might be good enough for Paul Nicholls and Byrony Frost – the King George Frodon team.
15:35 Uttoxeter – Truckin Away
And finally from Uttoxeter, the competitive Midlands Grand National over 4m 2f. TRUCKIN AWAY might relish this test and is getting better quickly for the master trainer Philip Hobbs.
The eight-year-old has raced 12 times and won twice, including last time at Doncaster when staying on well off a mark of 127. He’s up 10lb here, but the trip might help him make up for that and Michael Nolan could be in for a good ride in the colours of Native River.
So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
