16:55 – Arcanears

The opening race on the card is a five-furlong sprint won last year by the brilliant Sceptical. One guarantee is that there is no Sceptical in this year’s race and a blanket finish can be expected. Arcanears ran a cracking race in his final start of last season and there is no reason why he can’t improve further.

He loves the course and trainer Mick Halford and jockey Ronan Whelan always stand out at Dundalk. The step back in trip will cause no problems and he has a decent draw. He should be one of many to cross the line with a chance.

17:25 – Nakao

A fairly weak looking Claiming Race. Those that have raced have shown little and gone off big prices. It’s likely a newcomer will win and I’m sticking with the Ger Lyons’ trained Nakao. Costing 125,000 guineas as a yearling, the Dark Angel gelding is in the best possible hands and stands out on pedigree.

Colin Keane is in the saddle and trainer Ger Lyons won this race last year with a newcomer.

20:00 – Harpocrates

Excellent race and a small field is high in quality. Top four in the market all have chances and it should be an exciting race. San Andreas brings in fitness and a win at the track two weeks ago. He will have to improve further to win back to back races. Harpocrates has disappointed to date and moved from Aidan O Brien’s to Jessica Harrington’s late last year.

Three below-par runs for the new yard late in the year does little for confidence, but he has had time to settle in and a return to action is interesting. The step-up in trip will suit and in a race where there are question marks over stamina for some of his rivals he might just stay on the strongest.

Dundalk 20:30 – Ranger Bob

Ranger Bob ran a cracking race from a poor draw when denied on the line, finishing like a train a few weeks back. In fairness jockey Colin Keane done well to get him in a position to win having had no luck in running. The winner of that race Masalai won again since so the form has been boosted. Blinkers stay on and a much better draw suggests to me he will go close.

Colin Keane once again teams up with Gerard Keane. I’m sure they will expect a big run from Ranger Bob.
