12:30 Valsheda

Although his recent win came over 2m3f, Henry Gondoff certainly wasn’t stopping and he is seriously respected. However, the forecast good to soft is an unknown for him and VALSHEDA is a more appealing proposition on just his second start. Party Fuzz is another who looks sure to appreciate a new trip, while Kotkiwork is an interesting French recruit.

13:00 Five Star Getaway

However easily a horse wins it’s never a foregone conclusion that they will be able to follow up when turned out quickly under a penalty but FIVE STAR GETAWAY did make a good impression in his first handicap chase last week and the chance is taken that he will be in the same form. Last year’s winner Tudors Treasure is a solid alternative although Cape Robin is a very interesting newcomer to handicaps if coping with this right-handed track. Jarlath has been in fine form in jumpers’ bumpers and also comes into it.

13:35 Bumpy Johnson

There is more chaff than wheat here and the obvious form contenders Killer Kane and BUMPY JOHNSON didn’t cover themselves in glory last time. The former is respected on his encouraging hurdle debut at Aintree but he was leg-weary from a long way out here only recently. Token preference is for Bumpy Johnson who likewise showed plenty on his first hurdle run and though never involved at Doncaster next time, has had a short break since and shapes as though the drying ground will suit. Our Surprise is the most obvious danger among the remainder.

14:05 Paxman

John Constable flickered into life at Taunton in November and his current mark is tempting but he didn’t repeat a similarly good run last July when favourite next time so it may be worth taking him on. PAXMAN is a shot in the dark after an absence but he would have been just the sort for a race like this on his old form and new connections are having an excellent season. It’s too soon to give up on Amarillo Sky but the most threat to the selection can come from Steady Away now he is dropped in trip.

14:40 Win My Wings

A jumpers’ bumper proved an insufficient test for WIN MY WINGS last time but she can make the most of the return to chasing at the expense of Lord Napier and Run To Milan. It will be interesting to see how Larkbarrow Lad and Zylon go in the betting after breaks, but Larkbarrow Lad was beaten 6l by Win My Wings over hurdles about 18 months ago and Zylon has stamina questions to answer.

15:10 Shattered Glass (NAP)

The step up to 3m appeared to help SHATTERED GLASS (nap) last time and Michael Scudamore’s lightly raced 7yo can get off the mark in this company. He is preferred to Write It Down and Bogoss Du Perret.

15:40 Powerstown Park

All of these have questions to answer. The slight question with POWERSTOWN PARK is whether he’ll be at his best just 22 days after his return from a lengthy layoff but he is proven in handicaps and looks the most solid option. The market should be helpful with the numerous handicap debutants, of whom Go Pharisee Flyer, North Point and Guns For Hire are perhaps the most interesting.
