13:15 Good Ball

Good Ball made a promising start to his hurdling career when second at Auteuil in October, and he went one better on his first outing for Paul Nicholls when landing the odds over this course and distance in December, taking time to find his stride but likely to have gone further away with a bit further to travel. He had Gowel Road behind him that day, and that reopposing rival, as well as two others, have boosted the form with subsequent wins. Good Ball remains open to improvement and he gets the vote to land this before having his sights raised.

13:50 Southfield Harvest

Southfield Harvest has improved with each run over hurdles thus far. He opened his account in this sphere at the second attempt at Ludlow this time last year, doing well to run down one that got first run, and he raised his game further making his handicap debut at Wincanton on Boxing Day, he and the winner pulling well clear of the remainder, proving his opening mark a generous one. He is up 5 lb for that effort, but with this emphasis on stamina sure to suit, he looks worth siding with to go one better this time around.

14:25 Clan Des Obeaux

An impressive winner of the King George in 2018 and 2019, Clan Des Obeaux was not disgraced when third in his attempt to land a hat-trick of victories in the Kempton showpiece on Boxing Day, just travelling as though feeling the effects of a tough race at Haydock previously. He has been freshened up since then, and he is a course winner who landed this race when it was staged at Ascot in 2019. He is a top-class chaser and merits plenty of respect.

15:00 Sceau Royal

Sceau Royal found only Altior too good in this race last year, just lacking that one’s turn of foot when it came to the crunch, but with Nicky Henderson’s flagbearer not making the trip this year, Sceau Royal could be worth siding with in receipt of weight from his main rivals Champ and Greaneteen. Sceau Royal arrives here having impressed over hurdles this term, producing a couple of smart performances to land the odds in a handicap at Ffos Las and Grade 2 at Wincanton. He fell early back over fences in the Desert Orchid Chase on his last outing, paying the price for trying to match Altior at the ditch, but a bold showing is surely on the cards here, and he gets the vote to go one better than last year.

15:35 Buzz

Useful on the level, Buzz has developed into an even better hurdler, winning three of his first five starts, including when scoring with plenty to spare at Ascot in November. He improved again when second in the Betfair Exchange Trophy at the same venue last time, shaping well under a ride that asked a lot of him, and with more still to come from Nicky Henderson’s charge, he looks worth siding with to land this ever-competitive event.

16:10 Enrilo

Enrilo made a promising start to life over fences, finishing runner-up on his chase debut at Chepstow in October before going one better at Exeter the following month, producing a stylish performance to dispatch a subsequent winner. He was seemingly found out by the step up in class when contesting the Grade 1 Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day, but he is a major player now returned to calmer waters and tops the shortlist.

16:45 I Like To Move It

I Like To Move It made an impressive winning debut at Aintree in November, forging away late on from a previous winner in second, and he supplemented that with another facile victory at Wincanton the following month, making light of a penalty and the shorter trip to win with plenty in hand. It is unlikely his limit has been reached just yet and he is well worth his place at this level.
