13:50 Newbury – Kitty’s Light

I think Kitty’s Light is worth taking a chance on here. Sizeable Sam will impress and he’ll be a superb horse but I can’t see past Kitty’s Light. He only made his bumper debut in October 2019 and his second start was a hurdles race at Southwell last July so the progress he’s made has been very impressive. He also won at Warwick and Exeter off 117 and 123. He’s a horse going places and at this price, he’s worth a punt.

14:15 Navan – La Chanteuse

I just can’t get away from La Chanteuse. She looked a different animal on her last two goes. She bolted up at Faiyhouse over 2m2f and then at Down Royal over 2m3f when she beat On Eagles Wing. She’s massively improving and is a superb horse.

14:25 Newbury – Lostintranslation

Clan Des Obeaux sets the standard here but you could argue that he’s at his very best when going right handed. However, I do think a flat track is more important. He’s the one to beat but I’d take a chance on Lostintranslation. He was disappointing in both starts this season but Tizzard yard was in awful form. Tizzard is beginning to turn a corner and they’ve had three winners in the last week or two, including Native River last week. The good to soft ground here is also a positive for Lostintranslation.

14:47 Navan – Fury Road

I’m going with Fury Road. Gordon Elliott’s horses were not running well over Christmas but Fury Road should have enough here to win. If you look at his races over jumps, his only defeats have come at Leopardstown and a close third in the Albert Bartlett.

15:00 Newbury – Greaneteen

I can see the reason for putting Champ in this race but it’s unlikely he’ll have the pace to win here. I’m going to go for the most unexposed horse that could be still improved and that’s Greaneteen for Paul Nicholls. He won his first three starts over fences before an excellent fourth-place finish in the Grand Annual. He also won the Haldon Gold Cup on his reappearance off 151. Greaneteen will carry a 6lb penalty but there’s too much upside to not back him. The better ground will be a bonus here too.

15:15 Market Rasen – Miss Heritage

Ajero is very interesting here but my concern for him here is the soft ground. If he handles the ground there’s a big chance he could win but I’m going to side with Miss Heritage. She was a very impressive winner last time at Warwick off 126, beating the useful Time Flies By.

15:35 Newbury – Mister Coffey

It’s a good Each Way make-up here and I’m going to go for Mister Coffey under Nicky Henderson. He’s a horse with loads of ability and the good soft ground will suit him here. It’s also a big field and there will be a strong pace, which will help Mister Coffey for sure. Expect to see him fly through the pack as he might just have too much class for the rest of these.

16:45 Newbury – Might I

We’re still waiting for a British contender for the Champion Bumper to announce itself on the scene. I think Might I could throw its hat into the ring. He is held brother to Stattler and could take the win here.
