13:30 Ad Libitum

AD LIBITUM had fallen 11 lb below his last winning mark and justified good support to resume winning ways over course and distance 13 days ago. He benefited from the step back up in trip, making good headway two furlongs out and keeping on well when challenged in the final furlong, asserting in the final strides. The runner-up has run a solid race in defeat since, and a subsequent 4 lb rise leaves Ad Libitum still fairly treated on the pick of his form.

14:00 Sezina

SEZINA remains a maiden, but is proving very consistent of late, shaping with promise over a mile at this course three starts back and finishing placed over the same trip at Southwell the last twice. She did well on her latest start in December, coming from a long way back to snatch a place late on, and will remain of interest now stepping up in trip. Sezina comes out well at the weights in the conditions of this race and she won’t need to improve much if at all to deservedly open her account.

14:30 Raise The Roof

This doesn’t look the strongest maiden for the track, and it provides an excellent opportunity for RAISE THE ROOF, who shaped with plenty of promise on her debut at Wolverhampton 12 days ago. She was well supported that day and, though she was unable to land strong support, she shaped much better than the bare result, and will have learnt plenty for that initial experience. A slow start put her on the backfoot and she stumbled badly after two furlongs, but made headway out wide on the turn for home and finished never nearer than at the finish. The straight mile should suit this filly who is clearly held in some regard and can strike at the second time of asking.

15:00 Dragons Will Rise

DRAGONS WILL RISE has won three of his last five starts and didn’t run badly in defeat on his latest start at Wolverhampton in December. He was well backed to complete a hat-trick, but he didn’t respond to pressure as well as he had to win his previous two starts, sticking on at just the same pace in the final furlong. The two that beat him that day have franked the form since, though, and Dragons Will Rise will remain of interest from this sort of mark, particularly returned to this venue.

15:30 Kindly

KINDLY’s last win came on turf at Hamilton in July last year, but she is leaving the impression that she is building up to something, and looks ready to strike again now. She very much caught the eye at Lingfield last time where she was poorly placed from a wide draw, but came home much faster than all of her rivals to be never nearer than at the finish. The time she clocked for her last two furlongs was easily the quickest in the field and she was awarded a 17 lb sectional upgrade as a result. Kindly should get better luck in-running at this straight, galloping track and she makes plenty of appeal able to race from a 2 lb lower mark.

16:00 Hagar

Bryan Smart seems to have his team in good form so a chance is taken on HAGAR who looks well handicapped on the pick of her exploits last year. She took a step back in the right direction over this course and distance in December, awkward leaving the stall but doing all of her best work at the finish, suggesting she can be competitive from this mark, and is worth backing with that in mind.

16:30 Nellie French

NELLIE FRENCH wasn’t seen to best effect in a five-furlong handicap at Wolverhampton towards the end of last month and showed improved form to belatedly open her account turned out over the same course and distance three days later. She seemed well suited by being held up in a strongly-run race that day and, though there isn’t much pace on paper in this race, closers tend to be seen to good effect at this track and a subsequent 4 lb rise in the weights may underestimate her.
