14:40 – MELLIFEROUS

Tooreen Angel has had plenty of chances to date and it might be worth siding against her in this opening maiden at Dundalk. The Fozzy Stack trained runner has found several too good after seven career starts, including four placed efforts at this venue since November. Her recent second to Mosala wasn’t a bad performance when meeting trouble in-running with plenty of today’s rivals in behind on that occasion.

MELLIFEROUS learned plenty on her debut here 12 days ago for Joseph O’Brien and despite dropping down in trip can claim success under Shane Crosse. The daughter of Fastnet Rock raced green and was pushed along turning for home before making nice improvement to finish fourth. She’ll know and show more on her second start with the exposed Jungle Cove battling for a place alongside Approach The City.

15:10 – SLEEPY HEAD

This is the first of three extra-place races at Dundalk on Monday with our Paddy paying 4-places in the first division of the 1m 4f handicap. SLEEPY HEAD catches the eye wearing blinkers for the first time with the drop-in trip also looking positive. The Pat Flynn trained filly raced freely when finishing fourth here three-weeks-ago and looks ready to return to winning ways off a rating of 47 under Conor Hoban.

She travelled well from off the pace over two-miles but found Winston Wolfe and two others too good on that occasion. She’s been dropping down the ratings in recent seasons with her two previous victories at this venue coming off 58 and 63 in 2017. Top Line Tommy needs watching in the market after a break, while Stay With Me might find the 5lb rise too much for back to back wins with Macaban City and Arctic Blaze in the mix for a place.

15:40 – WAVE WALKER

The second division of the 1m 4f handicap is equally competitive with Paddy once again paying 4-places instead of the normal 3. WAVE WALKER showed notable improvement when second here behind Stay With Me three-weeks-ago and should be involved in the finish for John McConnell. The five-year-old has been raised 1lb for that run, but Siobhan Rutledge replaces Wayne Lordan and takes off a value 7lbs today.

Malbas was just in behind our selection in fourth-place for Denis Hogan and Joey Sheridan before finishing third to Storm Elza over a shorter trip here 12-days-ago. That form brings Pineapple Express into the mix for the Slattery’s with their filly handed a 2lb rise for her second-place finish. Never Mistabeat steps-up in trip and is the one to beat despite a 12lb rise for her recent impressive victory, while Danehill Quest is another for the shortlist now dropping in distance under Seamie Heffernan.

16:50 – MASALAI

Another extra-place race from Paddy with yet again 4-places on offer in this first division of the 7f handicap. MASALAI looks the most likely winner for Eddie Lynam, now rated just 1lb higher than his latest victory here over course and distance in October 2019. The seven-year-old knows this track extremely well and has raced consistently lately with sold second and fourth-place finishes in recent weeks.

He was only beaten a head off this mark behind Red Heel in mid-January before finishing two lengths behind Irish Ambassador also over the one-mile trip just 10 days ago. It’s a typical trappy Dundalk handicap with Silk Cravat and Miss Sassyboots two others with good chances. Ranger Bob wears blinkers for the first time and is another to watch for the father and son combination of Ger and Colin Keane.
