Dundalk 16:45 – Dances with Stars

I’m sure the owner-breeder connections weren’t thinking that Dances with Stars would end up as a mere 75-rated runner. He is no superstar, but his form around Dundalk is strong enough to win a race like this. Declan ‘The Enforcer’ McDonogh keeps the ride and can get the job done at the fourth time of asking.

Dundalk 18:45 – Lady Andaz

Kieran Cotter’s runner slots in at the top of the weights, having previously shown a little bit of ability when trained by John Gosden in the UK. She has a little bit of early pace which should enable her to gain a decent position from a slightly tricky draw in stall nine, over the long sprint of 7 furlongs.

It’s not a race that looks loaded with natural pace so Lady Andaz could well get up on the lead and stay there.

Dundalk 19:15 Hit the Silk

David Marnane’s runner was a massive eye-catcher last time and he will not be a 50/1 shot this time. Hit the Silk was rated close to triple digits early in his career and has found himself very well handicapped now. The track and trip are in his favour and he looks poised to strike in the lucky last at Fundalk.

Southwell 17:00 Vive La Difference

He started his career in France with the master trainer Andre Fabre and has found his level now for the new team. Tim Easterby’s runner has won five times but surprisingly he has as yet to try the fibresand surface at Southwell.

Vive La Difference is a tricky customer and is normally held up for a late rattle, so thankfully this race looks loaded with pace and should suit his late-finisher style.

Southwell 18:00 Magnificia

She has already managed to get her head in front after the switch to Philip Makin’s stable but things didn’t go to plan when dropped back to 6f last time. Interestingly, they give her another go as last time heading into the top turn, she was taken out of her position and could never get competitive afterwards. Given a smoother run this time, Magnificia looks well treated.

Southwell 19:30 Artistic Streak

I hate to put up a skinny-priced favourite in the last, but this mare produced a stand-out performance last time and a 5lb penalty will surely not stop her following up. We couldn’t see how visually impressive she was then, as a deep, thick fog had descended on the racecourse.

The winning distance was 11 lengths and she will gallop them into submission again on Friday evening.  We could even look at distance specials on how far Artistic Streak will win by.
