12.40pm – Punctuation
PUNCTUATION was the highest rated of these on the Flat, impressively winning a maiden by 11 lengths at Kempton for Andrew Balding, and fetched 110,000 guineas at the sales in October. He is a very nice type physically, just the sort that will do well now switched to jumps, and there’s every chance he could prove a class apart if taking to this new discipline, though he will be suited by further in time.
1.10pm – The Reaping Race
THE REAPING RACE saw the trip out better than on his stable debut with the cheekpieces back on at Wetherby last time and, having eased a bit further in the weights, he remains of interest. That was just his second start over fences, so he remains with room for improvement in this sphere, and has generously been dropped 3lb in the weights by the handicapper since. Rebecca Menzies continues in good form and he is well up to winning a race of this nature.
1.40pm – Alaphilippe
ALAPHILIPPE has to concede weight away all round here but he looks a bright prospect and should be up to the task. He opened his account in points at the fifth attempt and has won all three starts under Rules so far, taking the scalp of a subsequent winner on his hurdling debut at Ayr in November and completed a straightforward task with ease at Sedgefield last time. We didn’t learn anything new about him on that occasion, but he remains with plenty of ability, and is taken to defy a double penalty with a capable claimer taking 7lb off.
2.10pm – Some Can Sing
This looks wide open and it may pay to take a chance on SOME CAN SING. He remains a maiden, but has shown ability on numerous occasions while also showing some quirks. However, he looked a more straightforward ride when finishing third at Fairyhouse on his final start for David Christie in November and looks well enough treated based on his Irish form now starting out for a new yard that do well with new recruits. Sastruga and Loughermore head up the dangers.
2.40pm – Duc De Grissay
DUC DE GRISSAY is lightly raced for an eight-year-old and remains unexposed over fences. He showed the benefit for the step up to three miles when opening his account over fences at Kelso last season and he looked to have been laid out for the Scottish National last time. Duc de Grissay almost landed some nice bets, too, likely to have won had he not unseated his rider at the final fence, taking off fractionally in front but all but coming down on landing. The handicapper didn’t miss that effort and has hit him with an 8lb rise in the weights, but Duc de Grissay still looks well enough treated, while he has more to offer at these marathon trips.
3.10pm – Rollercoster
The lightly-raced ROLLERCOSTER looked streets ahead of her mark when making a winning stable debut at Bangor in November, readily powering away from her rivals when sent into the lead at the second-last and, having lost her action at Wetherby next time, she’s well worth another chance in a race lacking depth.

3.40pm – Nefyn Point
Donald McCain has been firing in the winners since the turn of the year and holds a strong hand here with NEFYN POINT and recent course and distance winner The Herds Garden. The former ran well off this mark when last seen in November, beaten only by one who had fallen in the weights and was on a going day. Nefyn Point could offer some value as Brian Hughes has elected to ride 12-year-old The Herds Garden and should give his inexperienced rider a good spin.
