12:50 Nortonthorpe Boy

After bouncing back to something like his best to get off the mark at Wolverhampton last month, NORTONTHORPE BOY showed improved form to follow up in good style under a penalty at Kempton recently. He travelled fluently as he cut out the running, quickening clear over two furlongs out and keeping on well. Phil McEntee looks to have found the key to him now and he sets a high standard as he bids for the hat-trick.

13:20 Severus Alexander

SEVERUS ALEXANDER showed little over jumps after being tried over both fences and hurdles last year. He pulled up on his last two outings in that sphere, but he finished a good length-second to Ravenscar in a handicap over this course and distance on his return to the level recently – producing a career-best effort on the Flat in fact. He is 5lbs better off with that rival this time around and must be in with a chance of reversing the placings.

13:50 Young John

YOUNG JOHN bounced back to winning ways with victory over this course and distance in November, winning with plenty in hand. He has hardly been disgraced in defeat since, finishing runner-up and fourth in a couple of handicaps over 6 furlongs. He is stepped back up in trip here, which should prove a positive. He clearly remains in good form, as does his stable, with Mike Murphy’s yard firmly among the winners in recent days. He merits plenty of respect.

14:20 Drew Breeze

DREW BREEZE showed promise on his first couple of starts for Ivan Furtado at the end of last year. He duly produced a career-best effort to get off the mark at this venue recently, running down his stablemate to lead inside the final furlong, keeping on well. He carries a 5lbs penalty here, but he could have yet more to offer for this stable, so he gets the vote to follow up.

14:50 Castle Quarter

CASTLE QUARTER hasn’t been at his best for a while now, his last win coming in October 2019, but he has recently joined the yard of champion all-weather trainer Michael Appleby. He looks well weighted on the pick of his old form. The significant step back up in trip could show him to better effect, and if he’s on his game, there is every chance he could make a winning stable debut.

15:20 Tellmeyourstory

$18,000 seemed a cheap price for TELLMEYOURSTORY given her pedigree – a Karankonite filly who is a half-sister to US Grade 3 winner Villandry – and she duly offered something to work with on her debut at Lingfield last month, sticking to her task well as she chased home the well-backed winner. She appeals as very much the type to thrive on this surface, and with the possibility of better to come, she ought to be capable of opening her account.

15:50 Nick Vedder

NICK VEDDER was easy to back prior to the off over this course and distance last time, but he took advantage of a much-reduced mark to bring to an end his long losing run. He won with something to spare after sweeping through from a long way back. He has come so far down the weights over the last year or so that he ought to win a few more races this winter, and, turned out under a penalty, this looks a good place to start.
