12.05pm – Saint Nicholas

This is a marathon 2m1f handicap on the all weather where stamina will obviously play a big part in the outcome. Magical Forest is respected following a course and distance win on her last start but the rise in the handicap could prove too much to overcome here.

Preference is for SAINT NICHOLAS, who has been running very well over shorter trips of late – culminating in a good third over 1m4 on December 28. The step up in trip should be to her advantage given she has won over 2m in the past and she comes ticking more boxes than most.

12.40pm – Hard Headed Women

This fillies maiden looks to be between Lady Gabriella and HARD HEADED WOMAN, and while Lady Gabriella sets the standard on her close third on debut in October her follow-up effort in November was quite frankly awful and she comes here with something to prove. Hard Headed Woman shaped very well on her own debut on December 11, a run that came on todays surface (unlike Lady G who is yet to encounter all weather tracks) and she looks like a likely improver off that and the more solid option of the two.

1.15pm – As d’Artois

A 15-runner handicap that is as competitive as you would expect and while a non-runner reduces the field we will still be paying four places on PaddyPower.com. Maket Poker is probably the form horse of the race following thirds on its last two starts and will be winning a race shortly. The draw in 14 is a tough hurdle to overcome however, so it could be best to look elsewhere.

AS D’ARTOIS is preferred from the plum draw in 3; a winner 12 months ago he is making his third start back from a 10-month layoff. He needed his first run when not showing much but bounced right back to form on December 1 when finishing a very good fourth over a furlong less here. With further improvement expected and the plum draw, a massive run is expected.

3.07pm – Droit de Parole

While Film is the obvious first port of call following two narrow defeats, the 9-year-old goes one and a half furlongs further than she ever has. You would therefore be very worried the petrol tank will be on empty as they settle down for the finish.

I’ll take her on with the in-form DROIT DE PAROLE who comes here off the back of a second and two fourths in her last three starts in similar contests to today. Significantly she picks up the services of Pierre-Charles Boudot for the first time, which can only be a huge advantage as he goes in search of another champion jockey title.
