The Racing Post like the look of Xpo Universel at Newcastle this afternoon [12.00pm]

12.00pm – Xpo Universel

Topweight XPO UNIVERSEL hasn’t really been firing on all cylinders this season but today’s drop in grade can enable him to capitalise upon some significant help from the handicapper. Comber Mill posted a good effort in defeat at Sedgefield two weeks ago and is second choice. Test Ride needs to prove he’s effective on soft ground but may also feature, while Horst is a more speculative option to consider.

12.30pm – Dubai Angel

Scottish Accent commands respect after his clear second at Sedgefield two weeks ago, while Smiths Cross wasn’t disgraced last time in a race that is working out well and has possibilities if today’s much longer trip suits. However, the most interesting runner is Richard Newland’s new recruit DUBAI ANGEL, who is well handicapped on the best of last season’s hurdle form for Ruth Jefferson and is even better treated if judged on his two promising chase runs in 2017.

1.05pm – Tommy’s Oscar

Archi’s Affaire sets the standard but he’s failed to complete in his last two starts and has something to prove. Here We Have It went close in a Carlisle bumper last month and is respected on his hurdling debut, while Flat winner Sharp Suited is an interesting contender switched to jumping on his comeback. However, the vote goes to point winner TOMMY’S OSCAR, who justified favouritism in good style at Sedgefield 15 days ago and may well be able to defy a penalty here to make it 2-2 over hurdles.

1.40pm – Shesasupermack (NAP)

This looks a good opportunity for SHE’SASUPERMACK (nap), who suffered misfortune when runner-up on both starts this season and was a soft-ground C&D winner in March. Protek Des Flos has seemingly been a shade below his best form this autumn but he’s edging down the weights and may provide the biggest threat. Catamaran Du Seuil is next on the list.

2.15pm – Joie De Vivre

The authority of her win at Southwell on Sunday was such that Another Theatre looks sure to be popular with punters, with her rider’s claim set against her 7lb penalty. However, this longer trip makes her worth opposing at a potentially short price so the vote goes to bottomweight JOIE DE VIVRE, who got off the mark over hurdles last time, goes well on soft ground and should have no issues with this longer distance. Runasimi River may be the best of the rest on her reappearance.

2.50pm – Le Grand Fromage

Ain’t My Fault has a better chance back in a handicap than he did in a graduation chase last time but there are other options, including Zalvados who has good claims on his form before a lengthy absence and represents a yard in terrific form. Little Rory Mac is a chase debutant to consider, as is LE GRAND FROMAGE, who promises to be well suited by this discipline and will find the likely good pace helpful.

3.25pm – Hear Me Out

Market Rasen winner HEAR ME OUT probably bumped into a very useful one (who has already won again since) when second at Aintree last month and might be the answer to this. Tele Red was placed at Doncaster on his debut and probably won’t be far away, while Blended Stealth, a half-brother to the stable’s popular chaser Cogry, is arguably the most appealing of the newcomers.
