4.30pm – Kaheall (NAP)

KAHEALL is bred to be useful (by Muhaarar out of a half-sister to The Tin Man) and duly looked a good prospect when opening his account at the second attempt at Wolverhampton last month. Settled just behind the leaders in the early stages, he was produced to lead inside the final furlong and kept going well to beat a subsequent winner by half a length.

This will be tougher now handicapping from a BHA mark of 82, but he remains open to more improvement (has plenty about him physically) and is fancied to prove equal to the task for the in-form William Haggas, who can boast a 22% strike rate at Chelmsford in recent seasons.

6.00pm – Count of Amazonia (Each-Way)

COUNT OF AMAZONIA had wind surgery shortly after joining Marco Botti (previously trained by Richard Hannon), and that seemed to work the oracle as he made a winning return from three months on the sidelines over this course and distance last time. He certainly saw his race out much better than had previously been the case, digging deep in the straight to land the spoils by a head.

Admittedly, this demands more from a 5lb-higher mark, but he should again be thereabouts if continuing to go the right way for his new yard, with further improvement not out of the question given how lightly-raced he is on the all-weather (won both starts).

6.30pm – Invincible Larne (NB)

INVINCIBLE LARNE has been in good heart on his last two starts at Chelmsford, winning over this course and distance and then shaping better than the bare result back over five furlongs. He was beaten two and a half lengths on the last occasion but probably would have given the principals plenty to think about with a clear passage, finishing with running left after repeatedly being denied a clear run in the final furlong.

He can race from the same mark here and will be suited by the return to six furlongs, so this looks a good opportunity for him to quickly regain the winning thread.
