Horse Racing tips: Frank Hickey’s 3 to see if Sunday’s a winner

Frank Hickey has revealed his four top tips around the tracks on Sunday.

Speaking on the latest episode of our twice-weekly From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, the Paddy Power expert trader has picked out his best selections ahead of action at Cork, Punchestown,  and Kelso.

1.25pm, Cork – Chacun Pour Soi

If you were looking to take on CHACUN POUR SOI, I suppose you could say that he was beaten on his reappearance last year by A Plus Tard but there doesn’t seem to be anything of that calibre in the race against him. Cash Back and Chosen Mate are next in on the ratings at 156 but Chacun Pour Soi has a rating of 172 so he could underperform by 10lbs and still win the race. You would be disappointed if he doesn’t win, and to my mind he will be your Cheltenham Champion Chase winner next March.

 

1.40pm, Punchestown – Min

This year’s John Durkan is an absolutely brilliant race. MIN is going for a hat-trick and is the one to beat. Allaho needed the run in the last two years and might need the run in this, but he’s one to watch. They’re talking about going down the Ryanair route with him but I think they’re a bit mad. I think he’s a Gold Cup horse myself, so I wouldn’t mind seeing him plug on into second and looking bit of a stayer so they go 3m with him.

Min will probably land the hat-trick but it’s a brilliant race. Chris’s Dream will run well and it will be interesting to see how Le Richebourg goes considering how he was favourite for the Arkle before he got injured. He’s coming back from nearly two years off, but I’m most interested to see how Allaho goes because he’s a horse that has huge ability.

Next time Ruby Walsh is on the show with me, I’m going to try and convince him to go down the Gold Cup route. Allaho would have won the Marsh Chase if they had listened to me, but hopefully they’ll listen this time!

3.20pm, Kelso – Looking Well

Just Your Type will run well – he likes a stamina test and comes in on the back of a win at Uttoxeter. Bigirononhiship actually won the race last year, beating Just Your Type, and he is now 10lbs higher so I can see him going well.

At the prices, I am going to take a chance on LOOKING WELL. This horse was cruising in the race two years ago when he fell three or four out. He won on his next start at Doncaster but then fell and had 18 months off the track. He returned at Kelso over hurdles last month, ran well and finished fourth. It was a very encouraging run and he races here off a mark of 136, which is only 3lbs higher than when he fell in this race travelling well and also when he won at Doncaster.

He’s 11, rising 12, and I assume this has been the target since they got him back fit.

He’s an each-way play.
