Paddy Power and Frank Hickey have put their money where their mouths are and tipped up their best bets prior to a bumper weekend of racing.

Speaking on the latest episode of the twice-weekly From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, the dynamic duo have targeted races at Sandown and Navan as their most likely winners from packed cards across the UK and Ireland.

Paddy Power

3.00pm, Sandown (Saturday) – Cloudy Glen

CLOUDY GLEN won the Southern National last time so why not the London National before the Welsh National? Cloudy Glen for me. That’s the fourth favourite in a row I’ve tipped up on the podcast this weekend, so fingers crossed I get a winner this week!

Frank Hickey

1.08pm, Navan (Saturday) – At The Acorn

I was going to say Cloudy Glen is the most likely winner, but for a bit of value I’m going for AT THE ACORN at Navan in the 3m handicap hurdle. In Tony Martin we trust.

This is a cracking race, and I’m really excited for this. The Jam Man won it last year, beating Tout Est Permis while Sire Du Berlais was fourth.

Keep an eye on The Bosses Oscar – he’s running off 137. I’m hoping that he won’t win because I want him to keep around that handicap mark as he’s my fancy for the Pertemps at Cheltenham in March, but I would like to see him finish in the first five here, maybe running on into fourth.

Tout Est Permis is back for more and ran a cracker when finishing third in the Champion Chase at Down Royal, but At The Acorn is worth taking a chance on. He’s running off 121 which means he’s 7lbs out at the handicap but Aine O’Connor takes 5lbs off. He is rated 131 over fences and I’m convinced that he’s got a big handicap in him at that mark over fences. He bolted up in his point-to-point over 3m on heavy ground, beating the very useful Collooney yet he has never run over 3m under rules. I think there is massive scope for him to improve with a step up in trip.

If you go back to the Dublin Racing Festival last year, he went off at 92 for the big 2m5f handicap chase and he was badly hampered three out, finishing sixth. He was very unlucky that day. The last day he ran over hurdles over 2m, and that was far too short. A big run from him is expected and he’s one I wouldn’t be surprised to see go to Leopardstown at Christmas for the big Paddy Power race.
