13:30 Exeter – Crossley Tender (nap)
Crossley Tender capitalised on a slip in the weights to open his account for the season in a Newton Abbot handicap chase in October, and, able to race off the same mark over hurdles subsequently, he had little trouble following up, winning in smooth fashion.
Back over fences at this venue last time, he completed the hat-trick, jumping soundly, travelling well and winning with plenty in hand. His jumping has looked far more accomplished since he was treated for back problems, and he is by no means one to take lightly in pursuit of the four-timer.
14:40 Exeter – Sevarano (next best)
Sevarano made up into a useful hurdler last season, winning two of his five races, hitting the frame in the other three, but he always appealed as the type to make a better chaser, and he proved that to be the case at Sandown last month. Well backed ahead of his chasing debut, Sevarano justified his supporters in good style, jumping really accurately for a debutant, challenging after two out and staying on to lead in the final 50 yards.
He is sure to improve and is highly likely to win more races this season.
15:15 Exeter – Some Detail (each-way)
Some Detail hasn’t won since landing a Chepstow bumper back in February 2018, but he has been running better than the bare form suggests, and is not one to take lightly.
He clearly has ability, running reasonably well to finish seventh in the Cheltenham Champion Bumper two seasons back, and he did progress over hurdles last term, improving race on race, placing in four of his five starts.
He is a thorough stayer, so it perhaps wasn’t a surprise that he failed to run to the level of his hurdles form on his chasing debut at Uttoxeter in October, unsuited by the shorter trip, but this step up in trip should show him to much better effect, and he is certainly an interesting contender at the current prices.
