Horse Racing tips: Mick Fitzgerald’s 7 Friday fancies on ITV Racing

It's Mick Fitz and his Friday TV tips for Sandown & Exeter.

Sandown 13:50 – Flinck (each-way)

A novices’ handicap chase where Morning Vicar won very nicely last time, I just worry that the ground may have gone a little for him. I still think he’ll run a big race but with a lot of rain around, Sandown  may just not play to his strengths. He is a very good jumper and that does give him an edge.

However, my selection is Flinck. This lad didn’t get home over three miles the last time but showed up really well for a long way. If his jumping is ok on his chase debut, he might take a bit of stopping in this at a decent each-way price.

Exeter 14:05 – The Big Breakaway

Just the four runners and Cheltenham Festival hope The Big Breakaway is the class act on display for the Tizzards. He’s no price but but will be very hard to beat on all known form. The ground is no problem for him.

Sandown 14:25 – Star Gate

All five of the runners have won this season and four of them are unbeaten. Sending Love was a very easy winner at Ffos Las last time and has the highest rating in the race.  Any News was a comfortable winner at Bangor on very soft ground, while Press Your Luck won at Uttoxeter and his form has been boosted since.

The one I like is Star Gate. He bolted up at Chepstow in the manner of a smart horse and gets the vote.

Exeter 14:40 – Severano

Westend Story belongs to my racing club and we are hoping for a clear round on ground that he will like, but his form figures are not inspiring/ We need him to jump better than he has done in the past to figure in the finish.

Another Tizzard runner Molineaux is of interest if he gets the trip. He shaped well at Ascot but I am not sure if he needed the run or is a non-stayer. He may just need to be held up for longer before delivering his challenge.

With that in mind, Severano gets the vote as he is open to most improvement. He jumped superbly at Sandown and has form on slow ground.

Sandown 15:00 – Farrants Way

There’s lots in this here with chances. Portrush Ted has won his fair share of races but has not been seen since a fall at Haydock when still in with every chance. He’s interesting even though he carries  top weight. There is nothing between Storm Arising  & Potters Hedger on their running at Lingfield, but the one that has the most room for improvement is Farrants Way for Venetia Williams. There should be more to come and he gets the vote.

Exeter 15:15 – Bermeo

A marathon over 3 miles 6 furlongs and Petite Power runs off the same mark as last year when he finished second. He’s sure to run well again, but Bermeo is a confirmed stayer and was flying home last time at Cheltenham, having won there the time before.

These conditions will suit better too and he can win for trainer Johnny Farrelly.

Sandown 15:35 – Miss Honey Ryder (each-way)

This is a handicap confined to mares only. Vegas Blue was very disappointing at Kempton last time when she was a beaten odds-on favourite. She also was below par on soft ground before at Kempton so that’s a concern. At a bigger price it may be worth siding with Miss Honey Ryder. She has excuses for her poor run last time and has handled bad ground before. The trainer could be in better form but I’m hoping this mare may get him off it and she looks a decent each-way player in this contest.
