Haydock 12.10 – Bushypark

Bushypark landed a monster punt on his last start, which was his second start in a handicap. He was a double-figure price overnight and was punted into 7/4 on the show and there was never a moments worry for those who jumped on the bandwagon. The soft ground was a big positive in his 11-length win that day, as he was a previous ‘point’ winner on the same going so the heavy ground at Haydock should not inconvenience him. He steps up another three furlongs but being a point winner, that should also suit.

The handicapper has bumped him up 15lbs for the win but connections claim 8lb off him. If he is in the same form, he should take all the beating.

Lingfield 13.05 – Ocean Road

Haizoom & Serena’s Queen are two newcomers that are certainly bred to make their mark but Ocean Road ran a cracker on debut at Nottingham and she can put that experience to use here and make it second time lucky. She is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Wigmore Hall and looks to have plenty of ability of her own. On her debut she was reluctant to load and very slow away but despite that, she made a really eye-catching move about three furlongs out, sweeping to the front of the field from the rear before Noon Star’s experience and fitness from a previous run, told in the final furlong.

I would expect her to improve plenty for that experience considering she did plenty wrong, with the form of the Hugo Palmer stable another major positive for her chance.

Ludlow 14.05 – Fagan

This is a competitive staying chase but Fagan really caught my eye last time out over hurdles at Aintree, where he travelled into the race really nicely and led towards the last hurdle before weakening out of things on the run in.

That was understandable, as it was his first start since March but it showed that the ability remains, particularly when you consider that he has only had three starts in the last two and half years.

Those have all come over hurdles but now he reverts to chasing for the first time since being pulled up in the Scottish National in 2018 when the 7/1 favourite off a mark of 147. He runs off a mark of 132 now and considering how well he went for such a long way at Aintree, he can definitely be competitive.

Ludlow 15.45 – Jaunty Freyja

Paul Nicholls, Nicky Henderson, Jamie Snowden, Tom George and Harry Fry all introduce well-bred newcomers, but it might be taking a chance on Jaunty Freyja for less fashionable connections. She was third on her debut last March behind the £170,000 point winner, Rose of Arcadia, and she can put that experience to use now.

In the last five years, her trainer Brian Eckley has had one winner from 22 runners in bumpers at Ludlow but another nine of them hit the first four and they usually are very big prices. Only last week Eckley saddled Libberty Hunter to win a Hereford bumper on his second start and that Hereford race was full of ‘likely’ types like this contest. A

At the forecast prices, Jaunty Freyja might be the value play.

Kempton 18.00 – Premier Power

Premier Power obviously hasn’t been the most straightforward to train. He has only made it to the racecourse three times in two seasons, but looks to have loads of ability, based on those runs.

He was a 300,000 guineas yearling and made his debut at Newmarket last year, being really well backed and looking all over the winner before he tied up and was caught right on the line, when matched at 1.01 on the Betfair exchange.

He then got off the mark at Kempton at a very short price and was off the track for the bones of a year before reappearing at Lingfield in August. He was a really short price and again was a comfortable winner. The second from that Lingfield race was rated 80 and won next time out and Premier Power was conceding him 7lbs.

He now makes his handicap debut here off a mark of 100 but he looks like one that might be capable of making his mark in listed and group company in time.

Kempton 19.00 – Lord Halifax

Lord Halifax was a wide-margin winner of this race last year off a mark of 70 and while his form since has been disappointing, he now returns to Kempton for the first time since, off the exact same mark.

He has had wind surgery since his disappointing effort at Chelmsford last month and the booking of Andrea Atzeni is very eyecatching. Trainer Charlie Fellowes has string in great form, which is another positive and a return to for Lord Halifax would certainly be no surprise.
