4.00pm – Rainbow’s Pony

This looks a very winnable fillies’ novice event and RAINBOW’S PONY, who showed improved form on her nursery debut at Chepstow in August, looks the one to beat. She has improved with each run so far, and proved her stamina for this trip on her latest start, having every chance inside the final furlong but just edged out close home. Some subsequent winners have come out of that race and Rainbow’s Pony could have more to offer switched to the all-weather.

4.30pm – Lone Fighter

Natural Value will likely have a bigger performance in him at some stage, but this race looks ripe for a newcomer, and it is the Saeed bin Suroor-trained LONE FIGHTER who makes plenty of appeal. He represents a yard that get plenty of debutant winners at this time of year, and he makes plenty of appeal on pedigree, out of a two-year-old winner who herself is out of the high-class Petruska. Potapova is from a good Cheveley Park family and is another likely-looking newcomer.

5.00pm – Intuitive

INTUITIVE started favourite for a dirt handicap at Meydan on his first start since leaving James Tate earlier this year and, though he failed to fire on that occasion and on turf after, there is reason to think he can bounce back to form on these shores. He was a comfortable winner of a handicap at Kempton from a 4lb lower mark in October last year, and has undergone a wind operation since his disappointing run last time. Fitness isn’t a worry given his yard and a first-time visor could perk him up further.

5.30pm – Ayr Harbour

This is a stronger race than the one AYR HARBOUR won at Southwell last time, but he produced a career-best performance that day and he won on the polytrack at Lingfield earlier this year. It could be he is just a better performer on artificial surfaces (also won on tapeta at Newcastle) and a subsequent 7lb rise in the weights may not be enough to stop him. The Gill Brothers is another who lurks on a good mark and is much better than he was able to show last time.

6.00pm – Australis

AUSTRALIS is building a positive profile on the all-weather, all three of his wins coming on an artificial surface, two of those at this track. He was never a factor in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket last time, the level of opposition too much for him while he also found the soft underfoot conditions not to his liking. The return to this venue ought to spark him back into life and he remains fairly treated based on his last win at this track in September.

6.30pm – Pearl Beach

PEARL BEACH is improving at a rate of knots at present, making it three wins from her last five starts at this course on Monday, and she looks well treated turned out under a 6lb penalty. That wasn’t much of a race up against plenty of exposed sorts, but she loomed up travelling strongly in the straight and powered away to win with any amount in hand, proving her stamina for longer trips in the process. Granted this doesn’t come too soon she should take all the beating once more.

7.00pm – Fitwood Star

This looks competitive but FITWOOD STAR did it nicely when making it two from two for this yard at Wolverhampton last month. That was his first run for 709 days (had been gelded in that time) but he had clearly done plenty of work, weaving his way through the pack over a furlong out and staying on well to be readily on top at the line. He is less-exposed than most he will meet at this level and has been given enough time to get over that effort.
