Horse Racing tips: Matt Chapman’s 6 slick picks at Clonmel & Taunton

Matt has the skinny for all the action on Thursday's tellybox.

IT’S a busy week on ITV racing with three days of Cheltenham coming up and an extra mid-week slot Thursday with the best of Clonmel and Taunton on the show. So let’s get things under way and see what damage we can do.

Clonmel 13.50

The Irish coverage begins with a handicap hurdle over 3m. This is very competitive and not all the horses are proven over the trip. One who is is SWEET STING, trained by Michael Bowe and ridden by Brian Hayes. She must have an eachway chance at least, and will be super fit as she’s having her eleventh run of 2020. I doubt she’s that well handicapped, but I expect a bold show.

Clonmel 14.25

Next a Listed mares’ chase over 2m4f. some decent mares in here and the one I like is SHATTERED LOVE from the Gordon Elliott stable. The former JLT winner retains her ability and was far from disgraced when last seen at Punchestown. This is her perfect trip and Mark Walsh is a good booking.

Clonmel 15.00

Now a Grade 2, the feature Clonmel Oil Chase over 2m4f. Willie Mullins probably holds the key here with Cilaos Emery and Bachasson. At this trip I prefer BACHASSON, even though he has been ditched by Paul Townend. My hope won at Clonmel in March, and was a fine sixth over hurdles at Cheltenham in the Coral Cup. He’s no mug.

Clonmel 15.35

And finally in Ireland a handicap chase over 2m4f. Boy this is tough. HOKE COLBURN ran really well at Galway when second in October and that was over a bit further than this trip. His stamina could help here for Brian McMahon and his son and this horse has come back to form in Ireland having been rated a little bit higher than this in the UK. An each-way chance.

Taunton 14.05

The Taunton races include this handicap hurdle over an extended 2m. Should be a good gallop here. Hard to oppose TOMORROW MYSTERY who is on the same mark as when hacking up at Newbury forst time this season for Paul Nicholls. Harry Cobden is on top and she’s done very little wrong in her life so far.

Taunton 14.40

Now a handicap chase over 2m7f. This gives the old boy ON TOUR the chance for another win. At the age of twelve he’s not getting any better, but he’s on a decet mark of 128 and this is winnable. He stays well and ran all right at Chepstow before unseating rider. has a chance.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
