Longchamp weather forecast and going for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on Sunday

Rain, rain, go away...

Alpinista wins the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in 2022

The autumnal weather in France led to wildly different track conditions for the last two editions of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Alpinista sliced through the mud to claim the spoils at Longchamp two years ago before Ace Impact scooted to victory in a rapid time on quick going in last season’s renewal of Europe’s most-prestigious race.

There is uncertainty about the ground in the build up to Sunday’s big race after the track was beaten by 40 millimetres of rain last week.

The course bigwigs at Longchamp are keeping an eight-metre strip of fresh ground for the cracking card, however.

All the trainers will be on weather watch including Ballydoyle maestro Aidan O’Brien, who fields Irish Derby winner Los Angeles and last season’s fifth Continuous.

The latest Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise the weather forecast and going at Longchamp is below.

Longchamp weather forecast

Longchamp took a light amount of rain on Wednesday, otherwise it looks likely to be a dry week in the build up to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, although the forecast is uncertain for Sunday.

Friday: The sun is tipped to make an appearance at Longchamp and there could be highs of 16 degrees.

Saturday: Another dry day is forecast on the first day of racing at Longchamp and highs of 16 degrees are once again possible.

Sunday: Despite the mercury potentially hitting 20 degrees, rain is predicted for overnight and the morning. Yikes.

Longchamp going

France Galop has the ground at Longchamp as ‘souple’ – equivalent to soft – but the penetrometer reading on Friday, 4th October is 3.7 which indicates the track is drying.

Meanwhile, the GoingStick reading from TurfTrax has the going as Good to Soft after a reading of 7.3 on Friday, 4th October.
