City Of Troy next race: When is Aidan O’Brien’s superstar horse back on the track?

Can the winning streak continue?

City Of Troy

Aidan O’Brien has declared City Of Troy the best horse he has ever trained – but when is when the multiple Group 1 winner’s next race?

The son of American Triple Crown winner Justify was the red-hot favourite for the 2000 Guineas after emerging as the most exciting prospect in a generation in an all-conquering juvenile campaign.

City Of Troy went unbeaten in three starts as a two-year-old including an emphatic success in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes last time out – a performance that earned a Racing Post Rating of 124, which was just two points shy of Frankel’s effort in the 2010 renewal.

After failing to justify the hype in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket when trailing home in ninth, City Of Troy displayed his class by storming to glory in the Derby at Epsom before a workmanlike success in the Eclipse at Sandown.

An all-the-way victory in the Juddmonte International – emulating Sea The Stars in achieving the Group 1 hat-trick – has sealed the colt’s place in the history books and it might not be too long before he’s packed off to stud.

City Of Troy holds a number of entries before the end of the calendar year, although Aidan O’Brien and ‘the lads’ appear to favour a crack at the Breeders’ Cup Classic – a dirt race he has never won before as a trainer.

“The lads can do whatever they want but we always dreamed that he would be a Classic horse,” O’Brien said. “He stays, he’s tough, we’re hoping the lads may go to the Classic with him, that would be some dream for him.”

The Breeders’ Cup Classic is set to take place at Del Mar on Saturday, November 2.
