Confirmed 2000 Guineas 2024 runners and riders for Saturday’s big race at Newmarket

A fab field of 11.

City Of Troy wins at Newmarket

City Of Troy headlines the field of 11 runners for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Dewhurst Stakes winner was hailed as the most exciting juvenile trained by Ballydoyle master Aidan O’Brien and ‘our Frankel’ by part-owner Michael Tabor after an all-conquering two-year-old campaign last term.

The son of Justify is a short-priced favourite with Paddy Power to claim the first Classic of the season, but his speed will be tested by Blue Point colt Rosallion, who scooped the Group 1 Jean-Luc Lagardere last season.

Richard Hannon also saddles Haatem, who boasts C&D form courtesy of last month’s taking success in the Craven Stakes, although he has 8½l to find with City Of Troy from last season’s Dewhurst.

Ghostwriter is the only other C&D winner in the field following last year’s Royal Lodge victory and trainer Clive Cox will be hoping the son of Invincible Spirit can give him a maiden winner in the prestigious race.

Night Raider and Notable Speech also head into the 2000 Guineas boasting unbeaten records, but the pair will be tackling turf for the first time in their careers after progressing on all-weather tracks over the winter and spring.

Alyanaabi and Iberian have a lot to find with City Of Troy from the Dewhurst, Task Force is significantly stepping up in trip, Inisherin is significantly stepping up in class, while Ten Bob Tony takes his chance after defeating 107-rated Boiling Point in a conditions race at HQ a few weeks ago.
