British Jump Trainers’ Championship 2023/24: Willie Mullins is crowned champion

Mullins lead is unassailable after El Fabiolo gets second-placed prize money for the Irish trainer as the curtain comes down at Sandown.

Willie Mullins

Willie Mullins has claimed the UK Jumps championship at Sandown to become the first Irish trainer since Vincent O’Brien in 1954 to do so.

He deposes Paul Nicholls who had won the crown for the past three years in a row and was chasing the title for the 14th time in his training career.

The Ditcheat maestro was always playing catch up though after Mullins landed the Aintree and Scottish Grand Nationals, as was Dan Skelton who looks booked for second spot in the title race.

Mullins capped a wonderful week when Minella Cocooner (15/2) lifted the featured Bet365 Chase (with stablemate Nic Rocket third) )to cement his position at the top, having had just five winners in the UK this sseason, prior to the Cheltenham Festival.

Since then, the Co. Carlow trainer has won the Champion Hurdle and Cheltenham Gold Cup among other races and has since won the Aintree Grand National, Scottish Grand National and now Bet365 Gold Cup as his UK tally reached 27 winners.
