Paddy Power has paid out* (see TC’s below) an amazing eight days’ early on Willie Mullins winning the UK National Hunt Trainers Championship when the UK jumps season ends at the mega-bucks meeting at Sandown on Saturday.
Four winners at Ayr on Saturday, including MacDermott in the Scottish Grand National, saw the Irish trainer collect over £150,000 on the day and with a winner at Ffos Las on Monday, Mullins is top of the table with a seemingly unassailable lead. However, there is £650,000 p for grabs on Saturday so he’s not over the line yet.
Mullins’ runners have trousered a whopping £3,087,248 of prize money ahead of Tuesday’ action, £179,885 ahead of Skelton on £2,907,463, while Nicholls has accrued £2,834,334 in his bid to win a 15th trainers’ crown.
If Mullins pulls off the coup he’ll become the first Irish trainer to nab the UK championship since the legendary Vincent O’Brien in 1954, having also prevailed the previous season.
*Payout applies to all bets placed on Willie Mullins to win the UK Trainers’ Championship prior to 1pm, April 19
