The hype is building for the world’s greatest steeplechase after the Grand National weights were released for this year’s renewal.
A full field of 34 has been assembled for Aintree after the final declarations and it is 2022 winner Noble Yeats that heads the list off a handicap mark of 165 and will carry 11st 12lbs after Conflated was rerouted to the Melling Chase on Friday.
Corach Rambler, the winner of last year’s Grand National, is rated 159 – 13lbs higher than 12 months ago – and will have to lug 11st 6lbs over the marathon trip.
A maximum field of 34 runners can take part in the 2024 Grand National and the last horse to make the cut is last season’s Scottish Grand National hero Kitty’s Light.
Vanillier, trained by Gavin Cromwell, was best of the rest behind Corach Rambler in 2023 and has been given a decent chance by the handicapper with a mark of 151 – an increase of just 4lbs from last season – in his bid to go one better this term.
