It’s not all about the Grand National as this week’s three-day meeting at Aintree features a stack of quality contests.
There are 11 Grade 1s between Thursday, April 11 and Saturday, April 13 at the Merseyside track including the Aintree Bowl, which looks set to be a humdinger featuring the likes of Gerri Colombe, Hewick and Shishkin.
The latter’s trainer, Nicky Henderson, will be hoping his team – minus the poorly Constitution Hill – can bounce back to form after a nightmare Cheltenham Festival, while Fergal O’Brien is likely to unleash Dysart Enos after his stable star was forced to miss the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at last month’s mega meeting.
Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliott and co are likely to cross the Irish Sea with strong squads and they will be looking to snag more big pots after dominating proceedings at Cheltenham.
The Grand National takes place on the final day of proceedings and 34 runners are set to go to post in the world’s greatest steeplechase.
