Fairyhouse is preparing to stage the annual Easter Festival as the Jumps season in Ireland prepares to enter the final furlong.
The biggest race across the weekend is, of course, the Irish Grand National, which takes place on Easter Monday, but there’s plenty of action before then with the pick of the first day being the Listed RYBO Handicap Hurdle.
Willie Mullins is likely to boast a number of runners in the €100,000 contest including last year’s winner Risk Belle and top weight Westport Cove.
Day two features a pair of Grade 1 races with Jade De Grugy set to run in the Honeysuckle Mares Novice Hurdle, while Blood Destiny and Spillane’s Tower clash for the second time in the WilllowWarm Gold Cup.
As for the Irish Grand National on Monday, Nick Rockett has a huge chance after being held back from Cheltenham for this race by trainer Mullins.
Horses that do well in this race tend to be in with a shot in the English equivalent at some point in the future. Last year’s winner I Am Maximus isn’t coming back to defend his crown as the Closutton master is saving him for the big one at Aintree.
The Irish Grand National has a huge prize up for grab, with the winner earning €270,000 for connections.
