City Of Troy next race: When is 2000 Guineas favourite back on the track?

The next big thing in racing.

City Of Troy

City Of Troy emerged as the most exciting Flat prospect in a generation after an all-conquering juvenile campaign.

A son of American Triple Crown winner Justify, City Of Troy went unbeaten in three starts as a two-year-old including an emphatic success in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes last time out – a performance that earned a Racing Post Rating of 124, which was just two points shy of Frankel’s effort in the 2010 renewal.

Ballydoyle trainer Aidan O’Brien hailed the colt as the “best two-year-old I’ve trained” and an exciting Classic campaign has been mapped out for the hot prospect.

City Of Troy will be Ballydoyle’s sole representative in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday, May 4.

O’Brien said: “If the Guineas went well he could go to the Derby and then there’s a chance he could go to Saratoga for the Travers Stakes. That’s all possible if things go well so it will be interesting.

“He looks a bit different at the moment. He’s done very well physically. He’s a medium-sized horse but is deceiving. When you stand into him, he’s much bigger than you’d think which is a sign he’s a very well-proportioned horse. When John [Magnier] and the lads are thinking like that, they’re not afraid to push him out there and see what he’s able to do.

“He’s by Justify which makes it very exciting for us because he should be able to run on dirt as easily as he does on grass. That’s what makes him very unique.”
