We ride for the final time at the 2024 Cheltenham Festival with seven smashing races on Friday’s schedule.
The feature is the most prestigious race of the whole Jumps season, the Cheltenham Gold Cup, as Galopin Des Champs bids to retain the title and join the exclusive club of dual winners.
Willie Mullins, who brought up a ton of Cheltenham Festival winners earlier in the week, appears to have the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle at his mercy as he fields more than 50 per cent of the runners, while his top-level winners Readin Tommy Wrong and Dancing City top the billing in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle.
We’ll also get to see if antepost hotpots Dinoblue and Its On The Line can live up to the billing in the Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase and St. James’s Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters’ Chase, while the County Hurdle and Martin Pipe provide each-way betting opportunities.
If you’re planning to have a bet on the Cheltenham Festival then it might be worth taking a look through the history books at the trends and statistics built up over the years as that data will (hopefully) help you find a winner.
Strapped for time? Don’t worry, we’ve picked out some choice cuts for all seven races on Friday, March 15. Cheltenham Festival odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise the key stats are below.

Cheltenham Festival trends
Cheltenham 1:30
Triumph Hurdle (Grade 1)
The last 12 winners of Friday’s opening race had their last run within the last 48 days, which is a trend that goes against Fratas, Mighty Bandit, Nurburgring and Salvator Mundi.
Cheltenham 2:10
County Hurdle (Premier Handicap)
You will want to keep an eye on Willie Mullins and Dan Skelton runners as the two trainers have saddled eight of the last nine winners (four apiece) between them.
Cheltenham 2:50
Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)
Just one horse in the last 10 renewals has won at a single-figure starting price.
Cheltenham 3:30
Cheltenham Gold Cup (Grade 1)
Bravemansgame, Corach Rambler and The Real Whacker can be ignored if you follow the trend of nine of the previous 10 winners having won on at least one occasion that season.
Cheltenham 4:10
St. James’s Place Festival Challenge Cup Open Hunters’ Chase
A negative for market leaders Its On The Line and Ferns Lock is that there has not been a seven-year-old winner of the Hunters’ Chase since 2012.
Cheltenham 4:50
Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase (Grade 2)
The second favourite has won all three editions of the Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase since its first running in 2021.
Cheltenham 5:30
Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle
It is worth checking Paddy Power’s odds for the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle as no favourite has won the race in the last 10 years.
Cheltenham Festival going
It is worth factoring the track conditions into your thinking before placing a bet with Paddy Power for the Cheltenham Festival. The latest report conducted at Cheltenham on Thursday, March 14 has the official going on the New Course as SOFT.
