Cheltenham Race Card: Your ultimate Festival guide to day 1 on Tuesday

The long wait is over...

Lossiemouth wins the Triumph Hurdle

After months of build up, the Cheltenham Festival is finally here!

The famous Cheltenham Roar will greet the Supreme runners and riders as the meeting begins with a bang and it looks a wide-open renewal after long-time antepost favourite Ballyburn was aimed at a different contest.

Marine Nationale’s absence from the Arkle means the second race of the meeting also has a competitive nature about it as Gaelic Warrior bids to prove he can mix it going right handed, Quilixios goes for a second Festival success, while the Brits have some decent hopes including JPR One and Master Chewy.

The absence of top stars on the first day of the Cheltenham Festival is felt most in the Champion Hurdle as equine freak Constitution Hill is unable to defend his title due to illness leaving Irish rival State Man with an open goal.

It was mooted that Lossiemouth could reroute to the feature race but last year’s Triumph heroine goes for the Mares’ Hurdle, the National Hunt Chase – named in honour of the late Maureen Mullins – also looks like heading to Ireland, while a couple of big-field handicaps also feature on the schedule.

Cheltenham Festival odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise, everything you need to know about day one of the mega meeting is below.
