Willie Mullins is loaded with two-mile novice hurdlers – but who is the best of the bunch at Closutton?
Well, that was a question posed by Mike, a viewer of our Cheltenham Countdown series, and, luckily, we have one of the best in the business to provide the answer.
Enter, Ruby Walsh. Our resident jockey-turned-pundit is a regular at the yard and is well qualified to rank Ballyburn, Daddy Long Legs, Ile Atlantique, Mirazur West and Mystical Power as well as reveal which ones are likely to be stepping up in trip at the big spring festivals.
The latest Cheltenham Festivals odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power.
Ruby Walsh:
Mirazur West has disappointed, so you’d probably have to put him at five, the other four have at least all won.
Ile Atlantique, Mystical Power, Ballyburn or Daddy Long Legs – the last one disappointed on really testing ground at Leopardstown so I guess for that reason and a Thurles win put him at four.
Ile Atlantique probably at three – up in trip I’d say is probably a toss of a coin between Ballyburn and Ile Atlantique, one will go two and a half, one probably two miles.
Mystical Power probably at one, he’s won a Graded race at two miles which the others haven’t so you’d have to put him at one.
The Dublin Racing Festival will tell a lot more if you’re looking for ante-post bets so it’s no good until after the event, but I’d say Ile Atlantique getting beaten in the Lawlor’s probably took him down a fraction so maybe Ballyburn going up in trip.
Ruby Walsh’s Rankings:
1 – Mystical Power
2 – Ballyburn
3 – Ile Atlantique
4 – Daddy Long Legs
5 – Mirazur West
