Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weather forecast, ground conditions and going for Longchamp on Sunday

The sun always shines on Paris.

Connections of some Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe runners are praying for the sun to keep on shining ahead of Sunday’s big race at Longchamp.

Westover got a bit stuck in the Parisian mud in last year’s renewal as all of his best performances have come when the word ‘good’ has been in the going description, while Prix Niel winner Fantastic Moon has been supplemented for a cool €120,000 due to the potential quick ground conditions.

On the other hand, Place Du Carrousel’s connections will probably be doing a rain dance as the daughter of Lope De Vega ran a cracker in the slop on Arc day last year to land the Prix de l’Opera.

If you’re planning to have a punt on the Arc, it’s only sensible to do some meteorological research, but we’re helpful folks here at Paddy Power News so we’ve done all that for you.

The going at Longchamp is currently described as GOOD TO SOFT although that could change ahead of the 15:05 post time on Sunday as sunny and warm conditions – highs of 24 degrees celsius – are forecast by Meteo France in the build up.

A general trend for the Arc is that class often tells on good ground as the four previous renewals on that going in the last 10 years returned three well-fancied winners and a defending champion retaining their crown.

The biggest-priced winner in recent history – Torquator Tasso in 2021 – came about on heavy ground, while the favourite in 2020 – Enable – could only finish sixth in similar conditions.
