It’s not just equine stars that are celebrated at the Cheltenham Festival as human achievements are also honoured.
Yeah, the horses are the real heroes of the show but the people in the saddle deserve a bit of recognition, right?
That’s where the gong for the Top Jockey comes in because the biggest (human) names in the game need a bit of competition during the four-day fiesta.
Our very own Ruby Walsh is the most successful rider in the history of the Cheltenham Festival, riding a whopping 59 winners and claiming the Top Jockey prize on 11 occasions during his illustrious career in the saddle.
The bigwigs at Cheltenham HQ paid the ultimate homage to our resident jockey-turned-pundit by creating the Ruby Walsh Trophy to hand over to the pilot with the most wins at the end of the week.
Rachael Blackmore made history in 2021 by becoming the first woman to be the Top Jockey at the Cheltenham Festival when she rode six winners, including Honeysuckle in the Champion Hurdle.
Paul Townend regained the Ruby Walsh Trophy at last year’s meeting by riding five winners, and he will fancy his chance of coming out on top for the third time in his career thanks to his association with top trainer Willie Mullins.

Cheltenham Festival Top Jockey 2023 odds
PaulTownend is the favourite in our Cheltenham Festival Top Jockey 2023 betting market as Willie Mullins’ leading rider will have an envious book of rides for the four days. He will also have a point to prove after attracting criticism from the Closutton handler at the Dublin Racing Festival.
