Willie Mullins is bidding to become the Leading Trainer at the Cheltenham Festival for the 10th time in his career – and the Closutton king is bidding break last year’s record-breaking number of winners.
The County Kilkenny native saddled 10 horses to victory at last year’s meeting and he boasts whole host of leading fancies for 2023 including Gold Cup favourite Galopin Des Champs and Triumph Hurdle prospects Lossiemouth and Blood Destiny.
He could even kick off proceedings by landing the first race of the meeting, the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, as he has the key players at the head of Paddy Power’s betting.
As well as the Leading Trainer Award, Mullins will be trying to break new ground by reaching the 100 Cheltenham Festival winners mark.
Mullins’ biggest competition looks likely to come from fellow Irishman Gordon Elliott and British master Nicky Henderson, who will be hoping to win big on day one with Jonbon and Constitution Hill.
