The early clues for next season’s Classics are in place with key juvenile races done and dusted for the year.
Auguste Rodin has emerged as the leading two-year-old colt thanks to his impressive victory in the Vertem Futurity Trophy at Doncaster, which had trainer Aidan O’Brien gushing that the Deep Impact colt “really is a horse to be a little bit excited about next year”.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
The hype surrounding the girls has centred on Dermot Weld’s Tahiyra following an explosive display in the Moyglare Stakes, but British-trained runner Commissioning already has course-and-distance form in the bag for the 1000 Guineas.
You can check out the latest antepost horse racing odds on the Paddy Power website, otherwise prices for the early favourites for four of next season’s five Classics are on our snazzy betting widgets below.
2000 Guineas
When? Saturday, May 6
Where? Newmarket
Ballydoyle pair Auguste Rodin and Little Big Bear are vying for favouritism ahead of the first Classic of the season.
Auguste Rodin scored an impressive victory in the Vertem Futurity Trophy, a race that has produced three subsequent 2000 Guineas winners since 2017.
Stablemate Little Big Bear also has Group 1 form on his resume having landed the Phoenix Stakes in August but the No Nay Never colt has never raced beyond 6½f.
Unbeaten Gimcrack hero Noble Style, Dewhurst winner Chaldean and Vincent O’Brien National scorer Al Riffa are also prominent in the early betting.
1000 Guineas
When? Sunday, May 7
Where? Newmarket
Tahiyra is the early fancy for the 1000 Guineas after crushing Meditate in the Moyglare at the Curragh last month on just her second career start.
Commissioning is next in our antepost betting after landing the Fillies’ Mile to make it three wins from three starts.
Epsom Oaks
When? Friday, June 2
Where? Epsom
As the standout juveniles, Tahiyra and Commissioning are also vying for favouritism ahead of the second fillies’ Classic of the campaign, the Epsom Oaks.
The lack of clues over a mile and a half sees the likes of Dubawi filly Never Ending Story, Galileo filly Delightful and Frankel filly Sandy Creek also taking a prominent place in the market.
Epsom Derby
When? Saturday, June 3
Where? Epsom
Auguste Rodin is clear at the head of our antepost betting for the jewel in the crown, the Epsom Derby, with our traders fancying his chances of landing at least two of the Classics.
Al Riffa is second in the early market and the Wootton Bassett colt is well bred for middle-distance racing.
Godolphin horse Flying Honours – by Sea The Stars out of Group 3-winning mare Powder Snow – is also up there having already proven his class over a longer trip by winning the Zetland Stakes earlier this month.
