A quality day of racing is in store at Cheltenham with nine quality renewals on the Festival Trials Day schedule as a whole host of stars come out to play.
The card has been beefed up with the Grade 1 Clarence House Chase – rescheduled after last weekend’s meeting at Ascot was abandoned because of frozen ground – as last season’s Champion Chase and Arkle winners, Energumene and Edwardstone, face off.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
Some clues will be dropped about the Gold Cup as Grand National hero Noble Yeats and Betfair Chase scorer Protektorat meet in the Paddy Power Cotswold Chase while the Paddy Power Stayers’ Hurdle picture could also become a little clearer as Paisley Park faces Dashel Drasher and Gelino Bello in the Cleeve Hurdle.
The card begins with a red-hot renewal of the JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle as Finale winner Comfort Zone faces Jupiter Du Gite and Scriptwriter while Dixon Cove reopposes. The likes of Henri The Second, Pembroke and Rock My Way will also bid to enhance their Cheltenham Festival prospects in the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle.
Delta Work, the winner of last year’s Cross Country Chase, shares top weight with 2021 Grand National scorer Minella Times in the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase.
We’re also sponsoring the big betting contest of the afternoon as a maximum field of 17 runners are set to go to post in the Paddy Power Cheltenham Countdown Podcast Handicap Chase including course-and-distance specialist Coole Cody.
