It’s been a wild week at Ascot in the blistering sunshine and our dishy duo of Ruby Walsh and Rory Delargy have been all over the action with a hatful of winners and, as always, searing insight and passion for the game. With the final day upon us, the lads gave us their best bits on the latest From The Horse’s Mouth.

Rory: Mine’s slightly under the radar but Jane Chapple-Hyam sent three horses to the meeting and had two winners and a 2nd at 40/1 in a big-field handicap so you can’t really do better than that. He’s had an absolutely cracking week and it’s nice to see one of the smaller Newmarket yards really thriving.
Saffron Beach, I know one or two of her rivals didn’t run to form, but no filly’s ever carried a Group 1 penalty successfully in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes and she blew them away so she’s really exciting for the rest of the season in all the top Group 1 races for fillies and mares over 1m.
Ruby: My highlight is probably Shane Crosse’s ride on State Of Rest in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes. It was a tactical race and he just got it absolutely spot on and it was a big day for him.
Shane was unlucky on him in the Tattersalls Gold Cup. Theoretically, on that occasion, he did the right thing. He set out to follow Alenquer and Lord North but they sat too far off High Definition in front. They just about got to him at the Curragh and Shane Crosse didn’t get there.
The theory was right, it didn’t work out for him, but he got it spot on here in the Prince Of Wales and paid back connections for missing out at the Curragh. I thought it was a great ride and definitely the highlight for me.
