Royal Ascot Dress Code: Queues expected as course checks crowd outfits meet standard

If you're going, make an effort, yeah?

Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot organisers have confirmed they’ve called in additional staff to handle the expected queues as attendees’ clothing is checked against the course dress code.

A spokesperson for the famous course told us that attendees will be prevented from entering the track if they are not adequately suited and booted for the festival – even if it means hours-long delays for those attending.

“While in past years we’ve allowed those in attendance to walk around with a slightly loosened tie or hat at a jaunty angle, this year we’re clamping down,” they confirmed.

“Blue suit and brown shoes? No.

“Burberry lining of your jacket? No.

“And if you’re even thinking you’ll get in with that novelty racing tie that plays The Lone Ranger theme tune, think a-f**king-gain pal.”

The course has attracted the ire of many for its sartorial strictures, but rather than loosening the rules, it has upped the ante this year with a raft of new restrictions.

“If your pocket square and tie do not match, don’t even bother turning up would be my advice.

“And that fedora might cover your hairline but it won’t sneak past here.

“I’m sure that waistcoat fitted two lockdowns ago, but really if the buttons are popping off it, we just can’t let you in.”

The tightening of restrictions could mean lengthy delays for patrons entering the course.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

“We’d suggest anyone concerned about delays could spend some time queuing at Gatwick for a bit a practice,” we were wold.

Though it’s not all bad news, as several well-known fashion-watchers have been drafted in to provide guidance to bewildered would-be racegoers.

“Gok Wan will be on hand to deliver emergency race-wear advice to those refused entry,” we were told, while rumours that a special edition of RuPaul’s Drag Race featuring rejected punters who are done up in drag to get past the fashion checks are yet to be confirmed.
