Ayr Racecourse is ready to hold Scotland’s biggest renewal of the season as a bumper field of runners tackle a gruelling course comprising 27 fences over four miles.

There was a home winner of last year’s Scottish Grand National as Mighty Thunder was first past the post but Lucinda Russell’s charge will not attempt to defend his crown as a tilt at the Aintree equivalent is calling.

While it may not have the glitz and the glamour of the English National, it’s still a pretty lucrative contest as there’s a prize pot worth £150,000 up for grabs, with the winning connections bagging a cool £84,405.

You’ll find all the key information you need to know about the Scottish Grand National below.

Scottish Grand National 2022 Date and Time

The Scottish Grand National runners and riders are set to go to post at 3.35pm on Saturday, April 2. The stamina-sapping contest unusually takes place a week before the Aintree equivalent this year.

Ayr spokesman Iain Ferguson said: “It’s to do with the way that Easter falls and if Aintree had been a week before it would have been very close to Cheltenham so we agreed to a one-off move this season.”

Scottish Grand National 2022 Odds

Kitty’s Light heads Paddy Power’s betting market for the Scottish Grand National despite failing to score from six starts this season. Christian Williams’ six-year-old is a consistent sort, however, with a trio of second places on the board including last time out in the Coral Trophy at Kempton.

The Welsh trainer is also set to saddle the second favourite in our betting, Win My Wings. The hat-trick seeker’s mark has risen 8lbs for winning at Newcastle in the Eider Chase last time out.

The Ferry Master, fourth in last year’s renewal, is also prominent in the market. The Scottish-trained charge is set to run off a mark 5lbs lower than 12 months ago and start for the second time since wind surgery.
