Lingfield’s inaugural Winter Million festival takes place this weekend, with bumper prize pots on offer across three days of rip-roaring racing.

It’s a mixed meeting at the Surrey track as National Hunt action on Friday and Sunday is sandwiched by an all-weather fixture on Saturday, and our pals at ITV Racing will be in attendance on days one and three to broadcast nine renewals including the £150,000 Fleur De Lys Chase.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

The going on the turf course is officially described as Heavy, while it’s Standard to Slow on the all-weather track. Friday’s racing is subject to an inspection at 9am due to forecast freezing conditions overnight, while temperatures are not predicted to peak beyond five degrees celsius across the weekend.

Lingfield Winter Million Friday Races

The Sovereign Handicap Hurdle is the most valuable race on the opening day, with last season’s Tolworth hero Metier attempting to get back to winning ways after a disappointing start to the campaign.

Dan Skelton’s Eclair D’Ainay must carry top weight in the first of the ITV Racing contests, the racehorselotto.com Handicap Chase at 1.50pm. There are five entries in the Cazoo Hurdle at 2.25pm as On The Blind Side goes for a first win since last January. Elsewhere on the card, course-and-distance winner Fantastikas faces six rivals in the Weatherbys nhstallions.co.uk Novices’ Chase at 3pm.

Lingfield Winter Million Saturday Races

The all-weather racing over the winter has been characterised by small fields going to post but the prize money on offer has attracted plenty of entries including 14 runners in the £100,000 Winter Oaks Fillies’ Handicap at 3.40pm. The other Class 2 on the card is the Handicap over 1m 4f with 10 set to go to post at 1.20pm.

Lingfield Winter Million Sunday Races

The lucrative Fleur De Lys Chase at 3pm has attracted a quality field and would be worthy of status as a Graded contest. Bristol De Mai – with Sam Twiston-Davies instead of Daryl Jacob in the saddle – attempts to bounce back from his disappointing run in the Betfair Chase and conditions should suit the mudlark but the likes of Dashel Drasher and Master Tommytucker are likely to provide stiff competition.

We’re set to see Champion Bumper prospect Estacas in the opener, the improving War Lord could go in the Cazoo Novices’ Chase, while Brewin’upastorm and Goshen are on track to meet in the valuable Cheltenham Festival Betting Guide Hurdle. If that wasn’t enough, a whole host of stayers are set to go to post in the Surrey National.
