Clan Des Obeaux and Minella Indo are vying for favouritism after 10 confirmations were revealed for the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day.
The dual King George winner and Cheltenham Gold Cup hero are the standout names on the entry list for one of the highlights of the UK National Hunt season, which is set to see last season’s champ Frodon attempt to defend his title.

Asterion Forlonge, Chantry House and Lostintranslation are also prominent in our antepost betting market for the King George VI Chase, while Saint Calvados, Tornado Flyer, Mister Fisher and Dashel Drasher are the outsiders.
Champion trainer Paul Nicholls has saddled the last three King George winners – Clan Des Obeaux in 2018 & 2019 and Frodon in 2020 – and he plans to unleash a triple threat at Kempton in his bid to make it four in a row.
The stable’s top jockey, Harry Cobden, has been confirmed to ride Clan Des Obeaux, Bryony Frost will resume her partnership with Frodon, while Gavin Sheehan is booked for 2020 Ryanair Chase runner-up Saint Calvados.
Minella Indo, who finished behind Frodon on seasonal reappearance in the Champion Chase at Down Royal in October, is Henry de Bromhead’s sole entry after Envoi Allen was withdrawn with the Leopardstown Christmas Festival in mind. Rachael Blackmore will be in the saddle for the Knockeen handler.
Nicky Henderson’s leading hope is Grade 1 winner Chantry House, who has won on his last four starts including a 37l defeat of The Big Breakaway on seasonal reappearance last month.
Willie Mullins’ progressive Asterion Forlonge unseated his rider on his first start out of novice company in the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase and is joined by stablemate Tornado Flyer.
Lostintranslation bounced back to his best when landing the Chanelle Pharma 1965 Chase at Ascot last month and King George punters looking for all the form clues will be keen to note Colin Tizzard’s charge got the better of Dashel Drasher by 16l on that day.
