Chacun Pour Soi has emerged as the favourite for the Tingle Creek Chase 2021 after Shishkin was ruled out of the Sandown feature.
The dual Cheltenham Festival winner will not take his place in the Grade 1 on Saturday, December 4 after trainer Nicky Henderson admitted his rising star is “not quite there”.
“He’s fit enough, but I just don’t feel he’s sparking enough and not quite giving us all the right vibes I’d like to see,” Henderson added.
“He’s not injured – we don’t go cantering injured horses. He’s all right, but Nico [De Boinville] and I aren’t 100 per cent happy with where he is and you can’t go running them when they’re like that.”
Shiskin, who was the hot favourite to win the Tingle Creek on what would have been his first start out of novice company, will instead be rerouted to the Desert Orchid Chase over Christmas. The high-profile withdrawal has prompted Paddy Power traders to move Chacun Pour Soi to the head of our betting market.
Willie Mullins’ charge was a disappointing third in last season’s Cheltenham Festival Champion Chase on his sole run outside of Ireland since transferring to the Closutton yard in 2016. He bounced back to his best when demolishing a classy field in the Punchestown Festival Champion Chase the following month, however. Stablemates Energumene and Allaho also hold entries.
Nube Negra is the principal threat, according to our traders, after an impressive victory in the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham earlier this month. Harry Skelton’s former Spanish Flat runner was 6l clear of Politologue, while Put The Kettle On and Rouge Vif were further behind.
Paul Nicholls’ leading hope is Greaneteen, who blew off the cobwebs when finishing fourth on seasonal debut in the Haldon Gold Cup. A course-and-distance winner, the seven-year-old laid down a marker on the final day of last season by landing the Celebration Chase at Sandown.
